Student Athlete Discipline
As required by law, the board has adopted a Student Code of Conduct that prohibits certain behaviors and defines standards for acceptable behavior– both on and off campus as well as on district vehicles– and consequences for violation of those standards. District administration has disciplinary authority over the student in accordance with the student code of conduct.
Sponsors and student clubs and performing groups such as band, choir, drill team and athletic teams may establish standards for behavior – including consequences of behaviors – that are stricter than those for student in general. These standards must be approved by the campus principal each year. If a violation is also a violation of the school rules, the consequences specified by the Student Code of Conduct or board policy will apply in addition to any consequences specified by the organizations standard of behavior. Discipline management techniques that may be used are specified in the student code of conduct. In deciding on the discipline to be administered to the student, the district will consider the following:
Was the incident a result of self-defense?
What was the intent or lack of intent of the student engaged in the conduct and
The disciplinary history of the student.
Drug Free Schools
Students who participate in extracurricular activities are also subject to random drug testing. Students who test positive will be subject to the district drug policy requirements.
